I was experimentating with ArtRage* this evening, and decided to offer the results in the form of a texture set, some plain, some with readable or unreadable text. The zip contains 36 icon-sized textures, and one large image. (As a result, the zip file is about 1.3Mb.)

Please comment if you take them, so I know whether I should make more. Credit is always appreciated, and I'd love to see what you use them for!

* Fab little arty paint package, entirely free. Go and have a look. Definitely unmissable if you have a graphics tablet!

The co-mod of 100contest started her new community up this week, with Contest #1 - Mark Squires Photoshoot (winners here. The images were fab, although I actually found it surprisingly hard to create a good icon from them. I'm particularly happy with the second of my entries, which actually used two of the photos.

I decided to enter these for Contest #13: Community Header & Icon (winners here), with a choice of 5 images, only one of which must be used, in a specific size. I chose to do a very simple and subtle design that will look best on a white background, as this suited the community name and tagline much better than hot pink would.

Another "Who?" moment - Challenge 8: Kate Bosworth (and some other bloke) (winners here). More experimentation - I cropped a base and applied a "pastels" effect as the background. I wanted to try and leave more open space than I usually do, and The rest just seemed to follow on from there. I tried the second font first, which seemed to suit it, but eventually I decided it wasn't quite right, and found the other one worked better. I tried putting in various accents on the lower, empty corner of the "photo", but ultimately decided that empty space is not a Bad Thing, and entered the first of these. (I did like how well the hearts seem to work, though.)

A vampire-themed lyrics contest? That's certainly different. Understanding (Wash It All Away) (winners here). Decided to play with PSP's water drops brush, and ended up entering the first of these:

I didn't have any immediate inspiration for Challenge 15: Back to School (winners here), so I browsed through my previously saved bases. One of enriana's sparked an idea, and icontest_dreams don't require you to make your own bases:

I like ___icontest___ - they give nice, simple themes. I'd previously made a set of playing cards (spades, mostly) bases, and in doing so, had tripped over a perfect image for using in Contest #4: Love (winners here). I decided to enter the first of these, because I'm enamoured of this style:

The normal problem with celebrity and fandom based themes, is that I've never heard of the people they're about. 100contest's Contest #21: Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) (winners here) was absolutely no different to normal in that respect, so I decided to experiment with effects:

For Week 51: Retro 60s (winners here), I entered the first icon.

My entry for Contest 11: Pink used a beautiful image from Blackeri at DeviantArt. I changed the background to be a hot pink, but in experimenting with pink shades, I decided that the icon looked equally lovely in a variety of shades.... so I saved a whole rainbow of different versions.

Amusingly, the same image was used later in iconartistic's Mythology challenge, which I didn't get around to entering - and won ;)

A variation on my existing *explosion* icon for obsessiveicons Icontest #9 - Smite (winners here).

Another duplicate theme this week, in the form of Challenge 13: Green (winners here). This one isn't a "hush", so there was only one thing I could do:

Fonts: 04b03 and Ravie.

An interestingly bizarre yet simple theme: The Number 4 (winners here). What to do? Eek. I played for a few days with large fonts, I looked for a big dice with 4 dots visible, then I tripped over a base with a 2:4 domino at the front. Easy enough to change to a 4:4. A quick Google for an appropriate quote later, and I created my first animated icon. I decided to do a very different icon as my second entry too.

Another quick and simple icon entry, for Week 50: Black and White (winners here).

It was late, it was tired, I'd been drinking earlier, and I wasn't feeling particularly inspired, but I felt I really should make something when I saw the reminder say they didn't have many entries yet. I try and support icontest communities, especially the newer ones, so they don't extended contests and end up shutting down. So, here's my (very plain and simple) entry for Challenge 5: Lestat and Louis (winners here).
